VOLUNTEERS

If you have been on several Railway walks and would be interested in leading in a volunteer capcity and enjoy both the walking and train travel, as well as meeting new people, then use the CONTACT button on this webiste and leave details of your

- name

- area that you come from

- group/area you come from

- telephone number

Then the walks coordinator will contact you direct or meet you on a walk.

All of our leaders (and co-leaders) MUST be members of the Ramblers Association and normally live with the 4 areas that the line covers (ie Avon, Somerset, Dorset and Wiltshire), and most have had some experience of leading walks for their local groups as well as being on several of the Wessex Wanderer Railway Walks.

Planning for the following season initially takes place in October/November with a planning meeting, where we discuss finance, dates and publicity etc (a good chance to meet fellow leaders) and final committment needed by the end of January, and then the programme is proof read in February, (the last opportunity to change things or drop out) and then publication on websites, advertisements and distribution taking place by the end of March/beginning of April, depending on the meeting of the Heart of Wessex Rail Partnership, where the main distribution takes place.

INFORMATION

All the walks for Wessex Wanderer Railway Walks are organised and led by volunteers who are members of the Avon, Somerset, Dorset and Wiltshire Areas of the Ramblers' Association.  Our leaders enjoy both the aspects of train travel and leading walks on the Bristol to Weymouth railway line, often in areas where they live and enjoy meeting others from other areas along the line.

Footpath problems - Any leaders finding a footpath problem, either when doing a recce (pre-walk) or on the day of the walk itself, please report the problem to the appropriate local authority (if known), and they will need grid references, as well as the date of recce/walk and details of the problem - please do not leave it for someone else to sort out.  If you have done a recce, and it would be worth mentioning the date of the walk for Wessex Wanderer Railway Walk.  Should you not know which local authority it is OR is is too major a problem to take on yourself, please use the Ramblers website, again the details above will need to be given and these will be passed on, and you will be contacted by the approrpiate area.

These details are as follows -:   http://www.ramblers.org.uk/

LEADERS BADGES

With effect from the 2014 season, all leaders and co-leaders will be issued with badges as below.  This will help any clarification of who the leaders are for new to walking with us, especially those who are non-ramblers members.

The silver badges were funded generously by the Heart of Wessex Railway Partnership officer, who helped design the badges and ordered them and was invoiced direct, and delivered to the coordinators address for distribution.  The Ramblers logo badges were supplied by Ramblers Head office.

It was not possible to have both logos on the same badge, this would have made a badge too combersome.

If a leader is unable to lead for Wessex Wanderers Railway walks any longer, it would be appreciated if the badges were returned to the current walks coordinator.
