Ramblers Association - April 2013 General Council - Presidents Award
Atricle correct at the time of going to press Avon Area News- June 2013 - Article Sylvia popham
The trophy - presented to Sylvia Popham at General Council

Thank you to Sylvia Popham, who nominated Wessex Wanderer Railway Walks at the 2013 General Council meeting of the Ramblers Association.  This was the first time that the various awards had been given out, the article explains the background of Wessex Wanderer Railway Walks, and  the lead up to the successful attainment of the Partnership category of the Awards.  Sylvia Popham was presented with the Partnership Award (and certificate) from Kate Asbrook, the President of the Ramblers Association.  Sylvia has been leading for Wessex Wanderers Railway walks since they were first set up.

Many thanks go to all the current and previous leaders of the Wessex Wanderer Railway Walks, and these are all volunteer members of the Ramblers Asscociation, who live in the Avon, Somerset, Dorset and Wiltshire areas that cover the Bristol to Weymouth railway line, and they have made these walks a success over the years.  Their contribution has been invaluable and must not be forgotten.

Many thanks go for the support of the train operating company (currently First Great Western) in running the service.  We have also had support form the Heart of Wessex Railway Partnership and the Severnside Community Rail Partnership, in terms of financial support for our programme production, advertisements and many other ways that they have supported us.  The 4 Areas (Avon, Somerset, Dorset and Wiltshire) have also helped with financial support and web page advertisements.

Lastly we must not forget the many walkers that have had years of enjoyment on the walks over the years, and hopefully we will be able to recruit many more walkers who will have many a happy day visiting areas that they would not get the opportunity to enjoy with the company of like minded people, and the enjoyment of the great outdoors and enjoying these walks hopefully will make new and lasting friendships.
