Lunch at the Railway Inn Westbury
Sixteen of us gathered for a 4 mile walk from Westbury station on the arrival of the Bristol train at just after 10.35. The walk was to Dilton Marsh and walking away from the main town and from the White Horse. We followed the railway line and into Dilton Marsh (which is a request stop on the Westbury to Southampton line) and then back via lanes and fields to Westbury.
Lunch was at the Railway Inn at Westbury which has made considerable improvements over the years and we had a separate room which was nice as we could make as much noise as we liked. A nice carvery lunch was served with a choice of roast beef or nut roast, with all the trimmings, of peas, carrots, broccoli, roast potatoes, parsnips, Yorkshire puddings and 2nds for anyone that had the space. Dessert was fruit crumble and custard or cheesecake – at lunch we were joined by some who did not come for the walk at around 25 people.
A big thank you must go to Sylvia for organising the day, but was unfortunately was not to be able to make it at the last minute, due to an emergency, I hope that Sylvia makes a speedy recovery and is out walking again soon.
Thank you to all those who came on the event and are now looking forward to the start of the season on Saturday 2nd May 2015 – the full programme is due out fairly soon (hopefully by the end of January 2015) and will be put on the Wessex Wanderers Railway Website and hard copies will be available in due course and distributed to Tourist Information Centres, local groups, and anyone who will help with distribution
Looking forward to seeing everyone over the summer of 2015
